I have an uplifting ride to work as I pass the Fort Motte Garden Club Garden Spot, the Pollinator Friendly Garden maintained by Nina Mack, Julia Wolfe and friends, and then I go down a hill to cross the Congaree River and check out its water flow. In late winter I see redwing blackbirds in the fields by the thousands.
There is a large row of electric transmission lines below the causeway and this morning six vultures were sitting on the highest structures with their wings completely spread to catch the morning sun. For all the world, they looked like beautifully carved sculptures created to decorate an ancient temple when the connection between man, gods, and animals was more fluid. A beautiful vulture, you say? Well, they are nature’s garbage collectors and yes there is beauty in that.
