“S” is for South Carolina Public Radio

“S” is for South Carolina Public Radio (SCPR). South Carolina Public Radio began broadcasting in 1972 as the South Carolina Educational Television Radio Network. Then it became South Carolina Educational Radio Network. Today transmitter sites across the state including Beaufort, Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Sumter, Aiken, Conway, and Rock Hill allow SCPR to fulfill its mission of providing continuous public radio program and emergency preparedness notifications to all forty-six South Carolina counties. For many years SCPR was home to the award-winning, nationally broadcast show, Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz. Automation has allowed SCPR to move to a twenty-four hour operation day. Today South Carolina Public Radio offers an increasing number of popular and locally produced programseither on the air or via podcasts--including Sonatas and Soundscapes, Who What When, Walter Edgar’s Journal, and State House Week.
