After a rainy Thursday, the weather will start drying out and cooling off as we head into the weekend. Tonight, the leading edge of the frontal boundary will move offshore, taking the rain and cloud cover with it. Cold air damming (where the colder air mass at the lower levels is trapped by mountains) could bring further temperature dips and cloudy skies early on Friday. Friday afternoon will be a nice day, with highs in the upper-60s under mostly sunny skies.
Since it’s been a while since we’ve seen cooler weather, make sure to dress in layers and allow for some extra time for travel in the morning. By Saturday, conditions are expected to moderate slightly, with highs returning to the upper 60s. However, colder weather and increased cloud cover could linger, making this a week to prepare for cooler, more wintry conditions across South Carolina.
The forecast continues to improve this weekend as high pressure builds in. Saturday, we’ll have skies full of sunshine, with highs around 70 degrees! We’ll stay in the 70s on Sunday and even into the start of next week. That's right around average for Mid-November, but cooler than we have experienced recently.
Still sunny today, but as much as 15° cooler than Tue. Then, rain will move in late tonight and continue much of Thu, bringing downright chilly temps. 🥶 The NC mountains might even see a little sleet mix in w/ rain as rain begins, but no impacts are expected. #ncwx #scwx #gawx pic.twitter.com/1TToYIKoip

And if you’d like to skip right to the holidays, and get to the really chilly weather, here’s the breakdown of when you can (usually) pull out those Christmas sweaters for the winter season:
- The Charleston region: Winter typically starts in late December and lasts through February. Temperatures average between 47° F and 52° F for daytime highs. The first chance of snow flurries is in late December and early January. The Upstate: winter is cold and snowy, lasting from December through March. Temperatures range from 26° F at higher elevations to 40° F in the plains for daytime highs. For the Low Country winter has milder temperatures with little to no snowfall. Temperatures range from 40° F to 60° F for high temperatures. And in The PeeDee average daytime temperatures of around 55°F are the norm with about one snow day per year .
The good ole Carolina wedge! Temperatures range from 40° in Boone to 71° in Charleston and 73° in Savannah! #scwx #ncwx pic.twitter.com/LyswXJciMC

And speaking of cooler weather, another round of chilly temps should arrive by the end of next week.
