South Carolina State University will host groundbreaking ceremonies this Saturday as construction begins on two major campus projects—a student center expansion and a new residence hall.
The first groundbreaking event will take place at 10 a.m. for the Kirkland W. Green Student Center expansion. The second is set for 11 a.m. on the university's new residential housing complex.
The student center expansion is funded by the State of South Carolina. The $20 million project will add 44,000 square feet to the existing building, bringing the total to 78,000 square feet.
The $50 million dollar residence hall is made possible through a bond initiative. The new complex will sit adjacent to SC State's Mitchell Hall and Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. It will accommodate more than 500 students.
SC State looks to complete both projects in time for fall 2027 occupancy.
