According to the South Carolina Forestry Commission, the fire is 60% contained as of Wednesday but has burned through nearly 2,000 acres.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) reports a wildfire in Marion County has burned through 1,750 acres of land. As of Wednesday, forestry official say the fire is 60% contained.

This comes as the state has seen unseasonably dry weather—with Red Flag Fire Alerts issued three times since late March. The state Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) says the
lack of rain, mixed with dry air and gusty winds, has sparked favorable conditions for wildfires.

As crews work to contain the Marion fire, the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has issued an Air Quality Alert for Horry County. The department cited calm, stagnant weather conditions that are limiting smoke dispersion as the reason for the alert.
