Hello, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. Katie Collins is a water resources agent with Clemson and also an inveterate kayaker. She grew up down near the coast and has come across several sad looking sea turtles. Some have lots of barnacles on their shells. A few aren’t a problem, but a lot often means that those turtles are in distress. By calling our Department of Natural Resources, you can let them know about sea turtles appearing to need professional help. One of the turtles Katie found was dying as it was full of plastic it mistook for food. This story had a happy ending as the South Carolina Aquarium operated on this turtle and nursed it back to help. Making It Grow filmed the day when this now happy camper went back into the ocean.
