Rapp on Jazz: Bob Alberti

TRANSCRIPT:

I'm Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz.

Pianist Bob Alberti studied under the jazz legend Teddy Wilson and performed with various jazz groups across New York City before relocating to Los Angeles in 1960. He built a prolific career there as a studio pianist, arranger, and conductor until 1993.

He played with the ABC Orchestra from 1964 to 1970 before joining the NBC Orchestra. From 1974 to 1983, he was the alternate pianist on The Tonight Show with Doc Severinsen’s band and served as arranger/conductor/music supervisor for Bob Hope’s TV specials until 1992.

He led the orchestra on Name That Tune for 167 episodes and orchestrated Disney on Ice for 17 years. After retiring to Hilton Head, SC, in 1993, he resumed performing jazz.

With numerous CDs released, he continues to play jazz, concerts, and pops performances throughout the Southeast.

This has been Rapp on Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and SC Public Radio, made possible by The ETV Endowment of South Carolina.
