I’m Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp On Jazz.

South Carolina–born Lauren Meccia is a saxophonist, composer, and University of South Carolina professor known for her versatility in jazz, classical, and contemporary music. Her performances blend strong melody, technical precision, and emotional depth, making her a distinctive voice in today’s jazz scene.

Meccia mentors the next generation of musicians at USC, pairing rigorous training with encouragement of creativity and individuality. She leads students to explore improvisation, ensemble playing, and personal expression.

Meccia’s career reflects the richness of South Carolina’s artistic legacy, showing how the state continues to produce musicians who shape jazz nationally and internationally. Her work underscores music’s power to educate, connect, and inspire.

This has been Rapp On Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and SC Public Radio, made possible by Layman Publishing Partners, celebrating 50 years of expert content creation, authoritative information management, and standards-driven print and digital production.
