Set in Jim Crow South Carolina, Stinney is based on the horrific events leading to the execution of the youngest person sentenced to death in 20th-century America. Glow Lyric Theatre is presenting four performances of the opera—a collaboration between Frances Pollock and Tia Price—through the end of July.

In this Sonatas & Soundscapes interview that aired Thursday, July 14th, host Bradley Fuller is joined by Glow Lyric Theatre Executive Director Christian Elser for a discussion about the Southeastern United States premiere of Stinney: An American Execution. A collaboration between composer Frances Pollock and librettist Tia Price, Stinney is based on the true story of George Stinney Jr., a 14-year-old African American boy executed in 1944 after being convicted by an all-white jury of the murder of two white girls in his hometown of Alcolu, South Carolina.

More information about Stinney and Glow Lyric Theatre's 2022 summer festival season can be found on Glow's website.
