Colour of Music Festival brings Charlestonia home

The original version of Edmund Thornton Jenkins’ Lowcountry-inspired orchestral rhapsody is set to be performed for the first time in the composer’s home state on Saturday, part of a Gaillard Center presentation culminating the Colour of Music Festival's Black History Month Concert Series.

In the Mon., February 5th edition of Sonatas & Soundscapes, host Bradley Fuller speaks with Lee Pringle, founder and director of the Colour of Music Festival. Lee shares about Edmund Thornton Jenkins’ Charlestonia: A Folk Rhapsody ahead of its performance in Charleston on Saturday, February 10th as part of a concert presented by the Gaillard Center.

As Lee explains, the performance will be the South Carolina premiere of the work as originally orchestrated by the Lowcountry composer, conductor, and instrumentalist. Lee also previews other highlights of the Colour of Music’s Black History Month Concert Series, which runs from February 6th-10th.
