With the increasing use of AI tools in education, the focus on ensuring students’ authentic work and deterring cheating has become paramount for teachers and schools, particularly in middle and high school settings.
My colleague, Ian O’Byrne, associate professor of literacy education, says concerns about students seeking shortcuts and compromising their learning integrity are valid, but it’s essential not to assume that cheating is widespread.
Ultimately, by cultivating environments that prioritize genuine learning experiences and ethical collaboration, educators can effectively deter cheating while nurturing students' holistic development and preparedness for future challenges.
