South Carolina education officials recently released the 2023-2024 school report cards, compiled by the Department of Education and the Education Oversight Committee. The results show a slight decline in the percentage of schools receiving an excellent overall score compared to the previous year.
This decrease is attributed to several factors, including the lingering effects of the pandemic, chronic absenteeism and stagnant test scores. However, critics argue that rating systems do not tell the whole story of educational quality.
The scores provide valuable insights but should be considered alongside other indicators to form a more comprehensive picture of school performance and student achievement.
