Flooding rains will be possible through much of the day Friday into early Saturday morning. Showers will begin early in the day Friday, but heaviest rain is likely arrive Friday evening into early Saturday morning. The Weather Prediction Center has nearly the entire state categorized in a slight risk for flash flooding for Friday.
Areas of the Midlands, Lowcountry and Pee Dee are all expected to receive over 1 inch of rain, with some locations around the Pee Dee potentially picking up over 2 inches of total rainfall. Flash flooding risk should peak Friday evening through midnight, when higher rainfall rates may overwhelm drainage, particularly in areas that have already received heavy rains earlier in the day. A few rumbles of thunder are also possible Friday, but severe thunderstorms are not expected.
By daybreak Saturday, drier air aloft will begin to move in and end the heavy rainfall threat. Although a few light showers will be possible Saturday, it will not pose a threat for flooding. As the rain moves out, a punch of colder and drier air will move in Sunday. Some areas of the Upstate and Midlands could be cool enough for areas of frost late Sunday night.
