South Carolina's beaches are bustling this time of year, and not just with visitors. Summer is peak sea turtle nesting season, when female loggerhead sea turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs.
These remarkable animals can travel thousands of miles and often return to the same beaches where they were born.
You can help protect nesting turtles by turning off beachfront lights, filling in holes dug on the beach, and removing chairs and tents at the end of the day.
Small actions make a big difference in helping ensure future generations of sea turtles continue to thrive along our coast.
