Into the Wild: Prescribed fires

TRANSCRIPT:

When people hear the word fire, they often think of destruction. But prescribed fire is one of the most important tools wildlife managers use to maintain healthy habitats.

Carefully planned burns help reduce dangerous fuel buildup, improve forest health, and create better conditions for many native plants and animals. In South Carolina, species ranging from wild turkey to quail benefit from habitats maintained with prescribed fire.

It's a practice rooted in science and one that helps protect both natural resources and nearby communities.
