More on Ag & Art Tours

Making It Grow Radio Minute
SC Public Radio

Clemson’s Ag and Art Tours when you can visit local farms and even some artists’ studios, is free on weekends from mid-May to the end of June. Different locations in eleven counties are open for free, usually both Saturday and Sunday. It’s great opportunity for kids to pet farm animals, learn that food doesn’t grow in grocery stores, and view the creative process of painters, sculptors and makers of crafts – maybe seeing a potter’s wheel will get your kid wanting lessons and away from days spent playing video games. You’ll want to bring a cooler to take home fresh meats, produce, and just-laid eggs – at most places vendors are offering food and drinks pack a picnic blanket, too. To learn what places are participating in the eleven counties involved, go to Clemson ag and art tours and plan your visits.

Amanda McNulty is a Clemson University Extension Horticulture agent and the host of South Carolina ETV’s Making It Grow! gardening program. She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
