Ag & Art tours are great outings for the kids

Making It Grow Radio Minute
SC Public Radio

Back before devices, video games, TVs in cars, we played games on car trips that had to do with your side of the road. Counting animals which all died if you passed a graveyard or getting all the letters in the alphabet (great when someone misspelled barbecue) made us pay attention to the countryside, too. Clemson’s Ag and Art Tour, from mid-May through June, features farms, art venues and more in eleven counties is a wonderful way to expose your children to farm animals, vegetables growing in fields, and the results of artists’ creativity. Why not make the whole experience different and bribe or whatever’s necessary to get your kids to count animals, look for alphabet letters and then have a great experience when reach your destination? Go to Clemson Ag and Art Tour to figure out your schedule.

Amanda McNulty is a Clemson University Extension Horticulture agent and the host of South Carolina ETV’s Making It Grow! gardening program. She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
