TRANSCRIPT:
This is Mark Rapp with Rapp on Jazz.
In Hollywood, he is known as “Dirty Harry,” an Oscar-winning director, or simply as the “Man with No Name” from a string of Spaghetti Westerns, but the multi-talented Clint Eastwood has made his mark in Jazz.
Early on, he pursued piano as a career, studying for a music theory degree in college. After making it as an actor in the TV series,” Rawhide,” Eastwood toured rodeos, state fairs, and festivals in a musical act.
Later, he incorporated his love of jazz in his films, including the critically acclaimed “Bird,” which was about the life of Charlie Parker. He also scored a number of his films himself, including “Mystic River,” and “Million Dollar Baby.”
This has been Rapp On Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and SC Public Radio, made possible in part by Layman Poupard Publishers, producers of the Literary Criticism Series and the Dictionary of Literary Biography.
