TRANSCRIPT:

Hi, I'm Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz

Pat Metheny, guitarist and composer, was born in 1954 into a vibrant musical family, where he began his journey with the trumpet! His innovative style blends progressive and contemporary jazz, Latin jazz, and jazz fusion.

As the esteemed leader of the Pat Metheny Group, he has garnered international acclaim and collaborated with numerous jazz legends, showcasing his adaptability in various small-combo, duet, and solo settings.

With three gold records and an extraordinary 20 Grammy Awards—making him the only artist to win Grammys in 10 categories—Metheny truly shines as a visionary in modern jazz. His emotionally rich and technically brilliant music continues to resonate with audiences, inspiring future generations of musicians!

This has been Rapp On Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and SC Public Radio, made possible in part by Layman Poupard Publishers, producers of the Literary Criticism Series and the Dictionary of Literary Biography.
