Rapp on Jazz: Jazz education in South Carolina

TRANSCRIPT:

I’m Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz.

The future of jazz in South Carolina is alive in the hands of our youth, and the state is investing in the next generation of great musicians.

From middle school bands to college combos, jazz education is growing strong. Programs like the Charleston Jazz Academy offer world-class instruction to young students,

In Columbia, initiatives like the Columbia Jazz Academy create opportunities for students to learn, perform, and be mentored by professional musicians.

And statewide, All-State Jazz Ensembles and high school festivals give students the stage—and the confidence—to shine.

These programs don’t just teach music—they build discipline, creativity, and community.

This has been Rapp on Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and SC Public Radio, made possible by The ETV Endowment of South Carolina.
