I’m Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz.
The Charleston Jazz Foundation is a gateway to a vibrant music, education, and community world.
Founded in 2008, the Foundation is dedicated to building a local and global community for jazz through performance, education, and outreach, while celebrating and preserving Charleston’s rich history in jazz.
Their flagship ensemble, the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, is a 17-member big band led by Maestro Robert Lewis. The orchestra presents a six-concert season each year at the Charleston Music Hall, featuring a mix of classic jazz standards and contemporary works.
The Foundation also hosts the Charleston Jazz Festival. This annual event brings together world-class artists and local musicians to celebrate jazz in the heart of the Lowcountry.
This has been Rapp on Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and SC Public Radio, made possible by The ETV Endowment of South Carolina.
