TRANSCRIPT:

I’m Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz.

There’s something magical about a jazz trio—just three instruments, yet a world of sound.

In a great trio, every player counts. It’s not just the pianist soloing while the bass and drums keep time. It’s a conversation—three voices listening, responding, and pushing each other forward.

Listen to Bill Evans, Scott LaFaro, and Paul Motian’s recording, “Sunday at the Village Vanguard”, and you hear space, subtlety, and risk.

Dig into the Ahmad Jamal Trio, where silence is as powerful as sound. The trio thrives on tension and trust. No one hides. Everyone leads.

It’s about chemistry—built over time—and a deep sense of musical empathy.

The trio may be small, but when it’s right, it sounds limitless.
