TRANSCRIPT:

I’m Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz.

In Columbia, South Carolina, the University of South Carolina School of Music is celebrating a century of musical excellence. For 100 years, it has been a beacon for aspiring musicians, educators, and scholars.

Offering over 20 degree programs—including performance, composition, jazz studies, music education, and the innovative Music Industry Studies—the school prepares students for diverse careers in the ever-evolving music landscape.

Students have the opportunity to perform in a variety of ensembles, from the renowned USC Symphony Orchestra to the dynamic Carolina Alive Vocal Jazz Ensemble. These groups showcase their talents in venues like the Koger Center for the Arts, enriching the cultural fabric of the Midlands.

The school also emphasizes community engagement through programs like the USC Youth Choir and the String Project, nurturing the next generation of musicians.

This has been Rapp on Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and SC Public Radio, made possible by The ETV Endowment of South Carolina.
