I’m Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz.
Guitarist Terry Rosen's impact on the South Carolina music scene is unforgettable. Self-taught and trained at Westlake College of Music in California, Terry started his career performing in Las Vegas with the Salmas Brothers. In the early 1960s, he joined the legendary Harry James band and later worked with the iconic Sammy Davis, Jr.
After leaving Davis, Terry immersed himself in Detroit's vibrant music scene before settling in Columbia, South Carolina.
He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina in 1984 and 1987.
A staple in the local club scene, he often performed alongside a young Chris Potter. From 1986 to 1998, he hosted "Inside Jazz" on the South Carolina Educational Radio Network and was instrumental in the annual Jazz on Main festival.
Tragically, Terry's life ended prematurely, but his contributions to jazz continue to resonate.
This has been Rapp on Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and South Carolina Public Radio, made possible by the ETV Endowment of South Carolina.
