TRANSCRIPT:

Hi, I’m Mark Rapp, and this is Rapp on Jazz.

Bassist and vocalist Jim Ferguson began his musical journey in South Carolina, where he started singing in church at the age of four, influenced by his father, who was a church music director. He picked up the bass late in high school and learned to play on the job before taking formal lessons.

At the University of South Carolina, he performed with local musicians such as Johnny Helms and Terry Rosen. After earning his degrees at USC, Ferguson relocated to Nashville in 1981.

Since then, he has performed with many prominent jazz artists at festivals, including Teddy Wilson, Kenny Burrell, Lenny Breau, and Mose Allison. With his rich background and diverse collaborations, Ferguson continues to significantly contribute to the jazz scene.

This has been Rapp on Jazz, a co-production of ColaJazz and South Carolina Public Radio, made possible by the ETV Endowment of South Carolina.
