The debate over homework and whether it improves academic success elicits many opinions. Educator and author Alfie Kohn, a well known critic of homework says there's a lack of evidence that homework is effective. Some researchers say it's not a question of homework or no homework, but what kind and how much?
One widely used guideline is the "10 Minute Rule," which recommends 10 minutes of homework per grade level. Regardless of the approach, the focus should be on assigning quality homework that makes efficient use of a student's time and connects to what they're learning in class.
