For South Carolina Public Radio, I'm Dr. Rénard Harris from the College of Charleston. This is Teachable Moments, a minute of education for students and parents.
The countdown to move-in day for college students is a whirlwind of excitement, preparation and lots of questions. It’s a time of new beginnings, but it can also bring a flurry of questions: What should I pack? How can I meet new friends? Where do I turn for support if I start to feel overwhelmed?
Student orientation leaders have a wealth of knowledge and advise incoming students to pack light, communicate with roommates about preferences for cleanliness and sleep schedules and get involved in campus clubs and organizations.
By embracing these strategies, you’ll not only ease your transition into college life but also set the stage for unforgettable experiences and lasting friendships.
