For South Carolina Public Radio, I'm Dr. Rénard Harris from the College of Charleston. This is Teachable Moments, a minute of education for students and parents.
Summer break means something different to everyone. For students, it’s a well-deserved escape from homework and classrooms—a time to unwind and recharge. But many parents and educators worry about the “summer slide”—and learning loss that can happen when school is out. That’s why summer school matters more than ever.
Schools like the College of Charleston offer youth and pre-college programs that range from studio art immersion classes, to engineering fairs, and sports camps and clinics.
The opportunities to stay engaged are vast and can deepen student’s academic skills and confidence, setting them up for success inside and outside the classroom.
