Thanksgiving Day will be dominated by a strong cold front pushing through the Palmetto State. Expect a line of storms to enter the upstate region overnight into Thursday. By midmorning, the line of storms will be moving through the Midlands, and by the early afternoon, it will be passing by the Pee Dee and Lowcountry. The coastal area will receive an extra round of storms on Friday morning as the second energy impulse moves over the region.
Within the line of storms sweeping through the state, some storms could turn severe, but they will be isolated. The main threat with these strong to severe storms will be at least 60 mph gusty winds and the low risk for some isolated hail.
Much drier air will push and stay over South Carolina throughout the weekend. We forecast a big temperature drop just
in time for the weekend. We will go from lows in the 50s to lows in the 40s on Friday morning to lows in the 30s across much of the state during the weekend evenings and early mornings and even some lows in the 20s across Upstate.
Skies will be clear throughout the weekend. This lack of clouds will allow the little heat the sunshine accumulates to quickly escape to higher levels of the atmosphere once the sun sets. Therefore, expect temperatures to drop quickly after sunset; keep that jacket handy!
All weekend, highs in South Carolina will range between the low to mid-50s, with temperatures in the upper range across the coastal areas.
Another cold front will push through Saturday, not producing any showers but reinforcing the cold and dry air over the region, keeping the temperatures steady and cold through the first half of the week.
