Severe storms possible for parts of South Carolina this week

The same system created close to 200 reports of damaging winds over the weekend, and nine tornado reports moved east, entering Palmeto State and bringing the chance for severe storms. The first up will be the Upstate, with some isolated strong to severe storms on Monday morning. The opportunity to have a few more severe storms will be focused along the Lowcountry through late Monday afternoon, with some isolated storms in the evening. The biggest threat with these severe storms will be damaging wind gusts; we can't rule out a tornado.

Cold front moves through South Carolina on Monday.

The winds will shift, and as high pressure sinks from the north, the winds will come in from the east on Wednesday. By Thursday, another low-pressure system will move over the Northeast and swing a cold front along South Carolina. The tail end of this cold front will likely develop another low-pressure system that will keep the rain activity turned on over South Carolina on Friday, pretty much all day in rounds. Cooler temperatures are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, about 10 degrees below average.

This late-week storm will bring a much cooler air mass for the weekend. We forecast lows next Saturday morning in the upper 30s across Upstate, the mid-40s for the Midlands, and the low 50s along the coast. Colder air will filter in for Sunday morning. We will bring you an update about the temperatures later this week.
