A high-pressure system is expected to remain in control for at least half of the weekend, but changes are coming as the winds turn, warm s up, and then another shift brings more changes. This high-pressure system is mainly bringing sunny skies during the afternoons, and mostly clear skies are still in place for Saturday night. We do expect a cold front to push through the region on Sunday. Rain chances will start to increase Sunday afternoon across upstate and arrive in Columbia by mid-afternoon. If you plan to attend the fair on Sunday, be sure to arrive early, as the weather is likely to deteriorate as the afternoon progresses. As of now, a line of downpours and perhaps a scattered thunderstorm will be crossing the Midlands by 4 p.m. Sunday. By 7 p.m., this line of showers and even more isolated thunderstorms will be alone, the Lowcountry and the Pee Dee.
Forecast for Saturday
Saturday will be a glorious day across the entire Palmetto State. The morning will be a little chilly across the Pee Dee. Low’s will be around the upper 40s. At the same time, the rest of the state will stay with temperatures around the mid-50s and even the upper 50s across upstate. Temperatures will be pretty uniform across the upstate and the Midland, with highs reaching the upper 70s. The coastal areas are expected to remain warm, with highs between 75 ° and 78°.
Forecast for Sunday
This bounce back in temperatures will be mainly courtesy of the winds streaming from the south. This will be in response to the incoming cold front that is expected to push through the state on Sunday. Ensure you secure any loose objects that may be outdoors. The winds on Sunday will be picking up, especially after midmorning through the afternoon hours. Wind gusts throughout the afternoon could reach as high as 40 mph across the upper Midlands and the Pee Dee area.
As the cold front pushes through the area, the winds will start to shift, and by evening, they should be mainly coming in from the west-northwest across the Upstate, slowly filtering in drier air across the area.
Chilly to start next week.
By Monday morning, the winds will be mainly from the north across much of the state, with dry air in place. Temperatures for Monday morning will be chilly across the Upstate, with Lows around the mid-40s, while the Midlands will remain between the upper 40s and low 50s. Coastal areas will wake up on Monday with temperatures in the low 50s.
