For South Carolina Public Radio, I'm Dr. Rénard Harris from the College of Charleston. This is Teachable Moments, a minute of education for students and parents.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology recently released a toolkit to help K-12 leaders integrate artificial intelligence. The guidance, focusing on mitigating risks, strategically using AI, and enhancing classroom learning, arrives as many schools still lack an AI policy.
My colleague, Ian O’Byrne, associate professor of Literacy Education, says this toolkit is essential for establishing a foundation in data literacy, to help educators protect student privacy and understand potential biases.
By building data literacy skills, teachers can ensure AI use aligns with the educational community’s values and supports students.
