For South Carolina Public Radio, I'm Dr. Rénard Harris from the College of Charleston. This is Teachable Moments, a minute of education for students and parents.
Today is October 31, and in the spirit of Halloween, we’re spotlighting some fears teens face and how to conquer them. While horror films and haunted houses scare teens for fun, the real fears they face are more personal. Nearly 60% of college students report mental health concerns, with stress and anxiety topping the list.
That’s why programs like Students 4 Support at the College of Charleston are so valuable. This peer-led program is powered by trained student volunteers who offer confidential, judgment-free support.
Students who talk to a peer about their struggles are 48% more likely to seek help. It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes, the best way to fight fear is through connection.
