Flash flood risk continues to increase as we move across South Carolina through the weekend and into the beginning of next week. A wide, low-pressure system moves slowly east, then northeastward, and its spin allows deep tropical moisture to flow over much of the Southeast, including South Carolina. The stream of moisture will be constant, bringing plenty of rain and scattered storms.
There is a marginal chance for severe storms to push through on Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, the severe risk will be mainly focused across the Lowcountry, with damaging winds and hail. The marginal risk will expand across much of the Palmetto State on Monday, also bringing damaging winds of at least 60 mph and hail as the main risks.
Rainfall could become dangerous as flash floods could develop.
Rainfall totals will be high in some scattered places, but the mountains could receive the most. The coastal areas are expected to receive more uniform amounts, between 2 and 3 inches.

Remember, if you encounter flooded roads, turn around, don’t drown. The water could be deeper than expected. Only 6 inches of water could cause you to lose control of your vehicle, and a foot of standing water could make your vehicle float. We will monitor the situation closely and update you on Sunday evening.
