Unsettled weather continues and ramps up for Friday

The soggy pattern persists across South Carolina. There’s still a chance for some isolated storms on Thursday afternoon. The chances of precipitation will continue to increase on Friday as a frontal boundary moves through the state.

On Friday, this cold front will enhance the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms from west to east across the Palmetto State. Some of these thunderstorms could produce damaging winds of at least 58 mph, hail, and we cannot rule out a tornado. By the evening, much of the state should be clear or clearing as the cold front pushes toward the coast. A second and last batch of storms will move through the Pee Dee on Saturday as a trough associated with the same low-pressure system sweeps through.

The weekend becomes much more stable, with clear skies in the evening and mostly sunny skies in the afternoon. A high-pressure system has set up camp, bringing drier air and temperatures around 5 degrees below average for this time of year. Highs on Saturday will struggle to reach the low 80s, while Saturday and Sunday mornings will be crisp in the upper 50s to low 60s. Near-average temperatures return on Sunday.

Reminder - June 1

We are quickly approaching the official start of hurricane season. Ensure you have a plan and take the steps necessary to prepare before a tropical system develops and threatens your area.

Hurricane Season: Terminology you must know

Having an emergency plan is always needed, and you can start buying non-perishable foods to stock up. This is also a good time to review your home insurance policy, make sure everything is in place, and make the necessary changes, as policy changes can take some time to come into effect officially.
